Battling Meth

Meth is a highly addictive drug that fuels identity theft, tears families apart and leaves toxic pollution behind. Rob battles against meth to protect kids, stop further crime and prevent environmental damage. The results are real:
  • Toxic meth labs and dump sites are down 90% vs. 2001
  • Increased law enforcement pressure has resulted in the price of meth doubling while its purity has gone down.
In 2005, Rob convened his Operation: Allied Against Meth task force made up of police, prosecutors, drug treatment providers, business members and others to face the meth problem head-on. Their proposed bill passed the Legislature unanimously. It included funding for rural drug task forces in areas hit hard by meth and new drug treatment programs, and outlined strategies for drug treatment and sentencing so that more addicts will succeed at kicking their habit.

Rob has seen first-hand the damage meth inflicts on families and knows that treatment and prevention are critical to containing the scourge of meth. Meth addicts endanger children’s lives, and the problem of abandoned children is straining the state’s foster care system. His office helped develop the Drug Endangered Children Protocols so first responders know how to help children found in unsafe situations. To prevent teenagers from turning to meth, Rob has visited 50 high schools around Washington, speaking to 28,000 students about the dangers of this destructive
drug.
