Attorney General Rob McKenna is a principled leader for our state, leading the fight against identity thieves, the scourge of meth and other drugs, and sex predators. As our attorney general, Rob knows what it takes to keep our communities safe, protect consumers from scammers, and safeguard the public’s taxpayer dollars.

Since Rob took office in 2005, Washington’s I.D. theft ranking has dropped, meth labs have been dramatically reduced, and new tools are in place to protect kids from sex predators. His leadership on these issues is making Washington a better place to live and raise a family.

Rob has twice taken cases to the highest court in the land, the U.S. Supreme Court, to fight for voter-approved initiatives, winning both times. In Olympia, Rob is successful advancing his legislative priorities, working with members of both parties to pass laws that make Washington safer and improve state government.

Born into a military family in 1962, Rob moved with his family to postings in the U.S. and abroad, including stays in Germany and Thailand. After settling in Bellevue, Rob graduated from Sammamish High School and went on to the University of Washington, where he earned degrees in economics and international studies and served as student body president. He earned his law degree from the University of Chicago in 1988 and worked at the Perkins Coie law firm in Bellevue.

After being elected to three terms on the Metropolitan King County Council, Rob ran for attorney general in 2004, winning more votes than any Republican candidate in the state’s history. He and Marilyn, his wife of 21 years, make their home in Bellevue and are members of St. Louise Catholic Parish. They have four children.
